Suspicion arose when it was found he was in contact with a main suspect named Joseph-Félix Badio before and after the murder. He fired multiple people that accused him or investigated his connection, claiming that it was not incriminating. Rodolphe Jaar, who confessed to financing and planning the assassination, claimed Badio called Henry an ally. Further stating he would rule after the death and help them get away with it. Gang violence in Port-au-Prince (resulting in 5,626 deaths) while Henry was in Kenya prevented him from returning. He was forced to resign in April. Despite holding office for 3-4 years, Ariel Henry was never a publicly elected official.
