I was there when you at the Grammys and the whole nine yards, but but let me ask you this, man. I was thinking because you’re so you speak so fluently and you’re so outspoken. I was wondering earlier today in prep like, man, I wonder if Jesse, was there a time where maybe you weren’t so outspoken? Was there a moment where you were introverted, where you kept things to yourself? And was there a moment that changed that?
Yeah, you know, in my in my 20s. In my 20s I didn’t, uh, pay attention to anything. I just I read my little poems and played rock and roll music and and really stuck my head in the sand. My dad had a heart attack. I got off drugs and I started speaking out.
Yeah, man. Amazing, let me ask you about this. Is there, you’re a prolific songwriter. Now that you’re so busy, is there a part of you that misses the purity of having the time to just write non-stop or or not really? Maybe I’m just overthinking it.
Oh, you just, you do these things knowing that this is just a a moment and like a season, and right now you’re touring quite a lot, but there will come a day where you’re not touring quite as much and you’ll be writing just as much as you did. And and that’s amazing.
Yeah.
I mean, let me ask you about, you know, Dolly. We just lost Dolly last month at like you know and someone that’s been in the music industry for forever. You’re still relatively fresh and you you know hopefully you have a long way ahead of you. Have you reflected on stuff like Dolly or other people that are like, man I want to have a legacy. I want to be in this for a long time and what you have learned from that.
I think trying to control a legacy, trying to plan it and achieve it, is insane. Control is such an illusion. All you can do is consistently be yourself and whatever legacy arises out of that is what arises out of that. I think that Dolly was genuinely a loving, kind, and generous person and that’s why her legacy is thus.
